From Desert to Oasis

Isaiah 35:1-2 (KJV)

“The wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad for them; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose. It shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice even with joy and singing: the glory of Lebanon shall be given unto it, the excellency of Carmel and Sharon, they shall see the glory of the Lord, and the excellency of our God.”

There are many times in my life when I experience dry places. It ebbs and flows. Things at home are great and work is moving along but my finances are in a drought. Sometimes I have more responsibilities than I have money. The financial situation will even out but work will get so overwhelming that I can’t breathe, and I have more work to do than the hours in a day allow.

It’s amazing how the dust and weeds of life choke me and make it hard to grow. I have to assure myself that God knew these challenges would happen. He knew it when He gave this prophetic word to Isaiah: ‘”The wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad for them; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose.”’

How can such a desperate and empty place bring forth abundance? How can my nothingness produce plenty? God, that’s how! He knows everything from the beginning when I was in spirit with Him to the end when I will be with Him again. He knew I would have troubling nights followed by joy in the morning!

When I am in a dry place I reach down into the core of who I am and who He created me to be, and I hold on to the rock of my salvation. I hold on to every promise He has spoken into my life. I hold on to my faith and I trust Him. I walk in obedience to Him. I continue the work in the vineyard in spite of this season of drought and confusion.

My hope is in Him and not my own hand. He will bring the rain to the desert. Seed will sprout up and the rose will bloom in my life. Not just bloom but bloom abundantly!

Lord, thank You for going before me and making a way out of no way. For knowing that there would be times that life would knock me off balance and that I would need You to straighten my path. Help me to recognize that You are there and a rose always awaits me on the other side. Through You there is beauty for ashes in the desert places of my life. Thank You for knowing about the desert places and preparing an oasis when I need it! In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
